Postpartum Doula Services.

A postpartum doula provides evidence-based information on things like infant feeding, emotional and physical recovery after birth, parent-baby bonding, infant soothing, and the basics of newborn care. Research shows that parents and babies have a smoother time with this transition if a good support team is in place.

I can offer many services as a postpartum doula, but my primary concern in caring for the parents and nurturing the family during this period. What I do to meet this goal, depends on the needs of the family.

Some of the duties I may perform include:

• Lactation Support
• Assistance and/or referals for physical and emotional recovery after birth
• Assistance with newborn care, such as diapering, feeding and comforting
• light housekeeping so parents do not feel so overwhelmed
• Light meal preparation
• Brief infant care, so parents can take a shower, a quiet walk, or a much needed nap
• Sibling support
• Referals for local resources such as parenting groups and events, enhanced lactation support, and medical services such as physiotherapy, emotional/mental health referrals and medical support groups
